Classes

On the first day we arrived in Bodo, I attended a Norweigan Language class. I learned how to introduce myself, say where I am from, and how old I am, and just a couple of the basic words. It was kind of interesting. Meagan and I are have finally figured out how to find our way around the school. We struggled with that for the first couple of days. Here are some pictures of our classrooms. We have grown to drink coffee! It is so cold here thats what we have to do to stay warm:)

This is how we remmeber how to get to our classroom is by the birds!!

Our tiny classroom for 2 students:)

Our coffee we drink from the sweet coffee machine:)

Leaving Haugasund and Arrival in Bodo

When leaving Haugasund, I thought that it was going to be a piece of cake. First off, when we arrived at the airport, they only had one person working to check in everybody for 2 different flights, therefore, we thought we were going to miss our flight. Well, we didn't miss it, but we did get a late start....about 45 minutes. From here on...everything just went down hill and began our long 30 hour day in the airports. We arrived in Oslo 10 minutes before our next plane left for Bodo. We had to pick up our luggage, re-check it in, and go through security to make it to our next flight. I'll just say...we didn't make it. We even tried leaving our luggage and just having them bring it to us the next morning, but yet...we missed our flight! It was a long night staying in the airport. I was afraid that our luggage was going to get taken and I just couldn't get any sleep on the bench where everyone could walk by and look at you! Meagan and I were starving, so we decided to look for something cheap for supper. Suprisingly, we got a frank (hotdog). Haha, I never thought I would be so desperate that I would eat a hotdog, but it was dang good!!! We woke up the next morning around 7 to make sure we gave ourselves enough time to get checked in, go through security, and find our gate where we would board. Our plane took off at 8:55 that morning, which was 1/2 hr late due to the snow on the run ways! Could anything else go wrong! Thankfully, we arrived in Bodo at 11am. We had a guy from the internation office pick us up and bring us to where we would be staying. We were hoping that they would have some sympathy on us and give us the day off....but that didn't work out! We brought our luggages up to our room, and then went directly to class and to meet the others we have been waiting to meet! Our class that afternoon was learning Norweigan language. I think I would have enjoyed it better if I could have kept my eyes open! Later lastnight, we went to the grocery store to buy groceries. Boy are they expensive!! We then came home and I was in bed by 9 pm! I was overly exhausted!! When I woke up this morning though, I felt well rested and prepared for a day full of classes!

Interesting Food

Our last night in Haugasund Anna's parents made us Anna's favorite Norweigan food. It was what they called komle (potatoe balls which is potatoes and flour and some other stuff), calarabi , polse (which is like ring balogna), carrots, baked potatoes, and left over dessert. The komle was alright, it didn't have much taste and it definetely was not my favorite meal during my stay in Haugasund.

Meagan and Me infront of the ocean by Anna and Astrid's House

Ocean

On New Year’s day we first went to a late breakfast at our friend Solveig’s house! I have fallen in love with their breakfasts here! After that we went to the “beach” which is now all covered with snow! It was beautiful! We got to see a lot of the ocean! It was a bit chilly outside that day so we just took some pictures and then went back and watched a couple movies! I have watched more movies here than I have in the last year! J Later that night the girls wanted to take us out to a pub…or what we call a bar. It was very expensive as it cost us a 100 kroners to get it, which is close to $20 in America. Therefore, Meagan and I only had one glass of wine that this generous lady bought for us! What a cheap but yet expensive night! It was a blast though!

New Years!

I have a lot of catching up to do with this blog! It has been awhile! So first of, on New Years Eve, we had a day full of fun! It is a big holiday in Norway. We first watched a couple movies during the day! What a nice way to relax! At around 5 oclock, Anna’s parents prepared a delicious meal for us. This meal is a tradition that they have every year for New Year’s Eve and is the only time that they ever eat it. So they were all looking forward to it. For supper, we had lamb, potatoes (without the skin) and calarabi. The Norweigan girls claim that we have calarabi in America, but I have never seen it before! The lamb was something new, but was not as bad as I expected it to be. Meagan on the other hand, filled up on the potatoes and the delicious dessert. For dessert, Solveig’s mother prepared this delicious chocolate mousse pudding stuff! It is to die for! We also had a fruit salad and their amazing ice cream! You haven’t tasted good ice cream until you try the stuff from here! After supper, we then just hung around in Anna’s apartment, which is in the basement of her parents house and she invited some of her friends over. It was a blast! When it hit midnight, we went outside….where it was storming, and watched all the fireworks. Since they live near the ocean, there were a lot of big and pretty fireworks! All-in-all, it was very exciting for me to spend New Year’s in Norway because I had a blast!

Food!

I have eaten soo much good food since I have been here. The first night we arrived we ate Taco's. Then the next morning, we went to our friend Solveigs house for an amazing breakfast. Here, Meagan and I learned how to speak some Norsk. We learned the names for apple and orange juice! Big step for us I know:) For supper, we then went to Astrid's house for some amazing homemade pizza and salad followed by tebriks(homemade bread with jelly or ham and cheese). Another phrase we learned was "takk for maten" which means thank you for the food! Atleast i'm learning somthing:)
